Hello mamas and families! I am the owner of Triangle Doulas of Color and a birth and postpartum doula. I am a transplant to North Carolina, originally from Virginia. At ten-years-old, I witnessed childbirth for the very first time! I found myself attending births of family members and friends over the years, before ever becoming a doula. I was in awe of the miracle of life through pregnancy and birth. I spent many years searching to find my place in the birth world. I am absolutely fascinated with the physiological process of birth and have been providing labor support since 2015.
I earned my Bachelor's degree in Public Health and Spanish. I enjoy studying maternal and child health as well as health disparities among the African American community. This passion for educating others, serves families well as we research topics throughout their pregnancy in preparation for birth. I also managed a midwifery practice and birthing center for nearly five years, discovering my passion for helping people navigate the healthcare system during their journey into parenthood. Getting to study at the feet of midwives as we cared for women through their pregnancy and birth gave me the perfect learning experience for my career as a doula. After volunteering as a birth assistant/doula at the center for two years, I went on to be trained as a Birth Doula by DONA International in 2017.
I am a mother to a beautiful and bright little one who keeps me on my toes! My pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experiences inspired the services offered by Triangle Doulas of Color. The prenatal meetings are used for educating and preparing families for labor and birth. I am passionate about helping clients advocate for themselves and gather information to be part of any decision-making process. I trust the innate ability of the body to give birth; however, I am equipped to utilize natural alternatives to encourage labor progression and pain management. I utilize aromatherapy, massage, relaxation, affirmations, and strategic positioning to support women in labor. I enjoy helping others to find their inner strength during the birthing process and consider this to be my super power. I am also equipped to support families through medical interventions that may be necessary or desired for their labor and birth. Every birth is different. I want every client to feel supported through their journey, no matter what comes their way.
The struggles and triumphs during my own postpartum period motivated me to create the Moms' Group we offer. We host an in-person Moms' Group as well as a private Facebook group called Triangle Mamas of Color to help build a community of support for mothers.
Each step of my journey has provided me with tools to support mothers and families through their journey.
